CHILDREN + YOUTH

Children are an important part of our community. All of us are called to model and live out the reality that God loves them as they are (and loves them too much to leave them that way).

On Sundays, families are encouraged to worship together for the first part of service. As our kids grow in maturity, we hope that they learn to sing, pray and listen with worshipful hearts.

The second part of service begins around 11:30 with a brief coffee break for the adults and classes or services for those in high school and younger. Instructions are given before dismissal, and signs are around to help direct those who are new (if neither make sense, ask around for help).

Service usually ends around 12:15, and parents of the preschool and K/1 class are expected to pick up their kids from their respective classrooms.

We have three divisions for our children’s ministry:

  • toddlers (0-2 years) - parents are welcome to leave their children in this class if they are able to stay on their own. They can also remain with their parents in service if this is preferred.
  • preschool (3-4 years) - once children turn 3, they are invited to join our preschool class. Parents can observe in class if their child needs help transitioning into this setting.
  • elementary (k-5th grade) - starting with this division, kids will be entering each class according to the school year (e.g. new classes begin every September). On most Sundays, our Lower Elementary kids (k-3rd grade) will have a mini-service before breaking off into their respective classes.

We believe that protecting our children is of utmost importance. All of our teachers are members of LHF and are required to sign a criminal background waiver before working with our children or youth.

We also have a small, but growing, Youth Group at LHF. As mentioned above, our Youth worship with their families during the first part of service, and then leave for their own class in the West wing of the school.

We try to hit relevant themes that apply to teenagers in today’s context here in the Lower Mainland. We work to make the connection between Scripture with everyday living, helping our kids transition from adolescence to adulthood.

The Youth are divided into the following classes on a Sunday:

  • Middle School (Grades 6-8) - a small group-based class
  • High School (Grades 9-12) - a discipleship-based program

Once a month, we also have a weekend Youth activity. These activities are a mix of fun (e.g. bowling, laser tag), outreach (e.g. volunteering), and learning (e.g. field trips).
