ABOUT US

history

Living Hope Fellowship started with a vision to reach 2nd Generation Korean-Canadians in the Lower Mainland. We officially opened our doors in January 1996 and, later that summer, we moved into Royal Oak Community Church (Burnaby). The following year we became affiliated with the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada and our vision changed to reflect the other Asian-Canadians that were coming to LHF.

In 2009, we officially dropped the ethnic focused-mission and, since then, we have been growing into a community that reflects the diversity of relationships that we are a part of.

In March 2010, we moved to Miller Park Community School (Coquitlam) and had to move again in July to Seaview Community Elementary School (Port Moody) to accommodate seismic upgrades happening at Miller Park.

If you visit our church on a Sunday, you’ll find a warm and sincere group of people who will give you as much space as you need - but also an invitation into our imperfect community that is walking, with lots of grace and mercy, into the redemption work of God.  We fail in many different ways, but we try to fail in the right direction.

Our mission + vision statement can be summed up as follows:

  • worship - we try to respond to God’s grace by putting Him at the centre of our lives.
  • walk - we try to live life as followers of Jesus
  • work - we try to participate in God’s redemptive process on earth, as it is in heaven.

statement of faith

We believe…

Scripture - that the Scriptures of both Old and New Testaments constitute the inspired word of God. We believe in its entire trustworthiness, its completeness as the revelation of God’s will for the salvation of men and women, and its Divine and final authority for all matters of the Christian in faith and practice.

Trinity - in one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three co-equal Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Christ - that Jesus Christ is true God and true Man, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He died on the cross as an atoning sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures. He arose bodily from the dead and ascended into heaven, where, at the right hand of the Father, He now intercedes as our High Priest and Advocate. We worship Jesus of Nazareth, as the Son of God incarnate.

Holy Spirit - that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ, to bring enlightenment and conviction concerning God’s revealed truth during this age, to regenerate the sinner, and to indwell, sanctify, guide, instruct, and empower the believer for godly living and service.

Human Beings - that men and women, created in the image of God, have fallen into sin and are so subject to God’s wrath and condemnation, inwardly depraved, and apart from grace, incapable of returning to God.

Salvation - that the obedience and shed blood of Jesus Christ, the risen Lord, provide a sufficient ground for the justification of all who believe, and that only such as receive Jesus Christ by faith are born of the Holy Spirit so as to become children of God.

Church - in the unity and common priesthood of all true believers, who together form the one universal Church, the Body of which Christ is the Head.

Return of Christ - in the imminent return of Christ to judge the word. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead; of the believer to everlasting blessedness and joy with the Lord, of the unbeliever to final condemnation and punishment.

We believe that God is a God of grace, and only He knows 100% of the details of how it all works out in the end.

we believe God is for real,
Jesus loves us, and
the Spirit is making us whole.
